When did you launch View from 5 Foot 2 and what made you decide to get into fashion blogging?
I launched my blog, The View From 5 Ft. 2, about 5 years ago, and really it started on a whim – I decided it would be something fun to do and wanted to give it a shot. I had no idea if anyone would ever read it, but I coded it and here we are 5 years later and still going strong!
When did your interest in fashion and beauty begin?
Honestly when I was a little girl! I used to love dressing up and would raid my mother’s beauty drawers and play with her makeup. I used to practice doing my own hair for fun to learn new styles and I taught myself how to French braid when I was 6. I’ve just always had a thing for it.
How have you developed your style?
I think my style has developed with the changes in my life. When I was in my early 20’s I was more into fast fashion and trends, whereas today I love staples and basics and mix in those trendier items on occasion. It just doesn’t make sense in my day-to-day to be wearing crazy prints and fishnets under jeans like the 20-somethings do!
What is the one essential item in your wardrobe you couldn’t live without?
A good pair of jeans. I wear them regularly and I could truly get by with 1 pair if I had to.
How many looks do you shoot in a single day?
I have a hard time working my shooting into my regular schedule with my full-time job and social life, so I usually shoot on the weekends. If I set aside the time I may shoot 4-5 looks at once.
What camera do you use, and what do you use to edit your photos?
I’ve had a Canon Rebel T2i for years and have a 50mm f/1.4 lens that I use most of the time. When I work with photographers though they have a lot nicer equipment and in turn the image quality is much better.
How long did it take you to grow your following?
A very long time and it’s still happening! The space has changed so much and Instagram has made it easier than it was when I started to discover new accounts. That being said, the blog market is so much more saturated these days so you really have to captivate your own audience in a unique way. I think it took about 2 solid years of more consistency to get a base following everyday traffic wise.
What are your 5 essential travel items?
Headphones, sneakers, jeans, a cozy sweater, and my computer.
What’s a place you’d like to visit?
Just one? There are so many! Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Greece… the list goes on.
What are your goals for View from 5 foot 2 in 2017?
I’m excited to continue growing my following and honing in on interesting content that readers respond to.
