When did you launch Chloe Loves to Shop and what made you decide to get into fashion blogging?
I launched the blog at the beginning of 2017 after I decided to quit my job in TV after 17 years. It felt like time for a change and I wanted to spend more time with my three children. I have always loved fashion, and the blog was the perfect outlet for my passion.
How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style is fairly simple, relaxed and feminine. I am happiest in a great pair of jeans, a tee and sandals.
How have you developed your style over time?
As I have got older, I have become a little more discerning about the quality of the clothes that I wear. I steer clear of knitwear or garments that aren’t made from natural fibers. Life’s too short to wear acrylic clothes! Also, as you get older I think you need to invest in fabrics and shapes that flatter your figure.
How do you stay current with what’s new or in style at the moment?
I follow lots of fashion bloggers and tend to pick the trends that I think will translate well for my shape, height and my age. I am quite petite and turning 40 this year, so there’s a lot that I love to see others wearing but know wouldn’t look right on me. I think as you get older you also get a better sense of your personal style, what works for you and what doesn’t.
Tell me about one item that you bought this year that you just can’t live without?
My Chloe Susanna Boots. I have lived in them and suspect I will wear them until they fall apart. They work all year round, with most outfits and are incredibly comfortable. Worth every penny, and possibly the biggest splurge purchase I have ever made.
What’s most important to you in choosing an outfit for the day?
I have to be comfortable. If something doesn’t feel quite right the moment I put it on, off it comes. If shoes hurt when I put them on, they come straight off. And I never like to feel too ‘done’ I often take off one item before I leave the house. ‘Effortless’ is the look I try to achieve!
What is your favorite social platform and why?
Instagram. I love the supportive community that I have found through Instagram. Mostly a group of seriously inspiring ladies who are supportive and build each other up. All connected by their love for clothes, but often it’s so much more than that. Life issues, parenting issues and the everyday. I share a lot through the ‘stories’ feature on Instagram. That’s my way of keeping it real. It’s very easy to upload perfect pictures that have been edited and carefully chosen, but that can paint an unrealistic picture of someone’s life.
What daily tools and platforms do you use in your blogging routine, for research, promotion, sharing and other?
I have started to use Facebook and Twitter, and used to use Snapchat, but to be honest, one platform is time consuming enough. Most of the time I am attending events and meetings then racing to the school gates to pick up the children, so I don’t really have time for more than one!
What are your 5 essential travel items?
A blanket cashmere scarf (perfect for keeping warm on the plane and always useful to have on holiday if the weather is unpredictable.
A good pair of sunglasses.
A great pair of trainers.
My GHD tongs!
What are your goals for 2017?
To make a success of the blog without becoming too commercial. I want to remain authentic, and sometimes when you are offered collaborations or campaigns it’s tempting to say yes, (we all need to pay the bills) but it’s very important to me that I stay true to my style and my followers. I have a loyalty to the people who support and follow me and I never want to ‘sell out’
