Zara, The Big Fashion Empire

There are two things to be said about Zara. The first was said by its founder, Amancio Ortega, who only called his new shop Zara because the name Zorba was taken. He said: “Selling fashion is like selling fish,”, “It’s worth more when it’s fresh.”

The second thing to be said is that Zara has revolutionized the fashion world. We cannot speak about Zara without first make a brief reference to its earlier history.

Amancio Ortega, opened the first Zara store in 1975 in A Coruña, Galicia, Spain.

Since then, the fashion store has expanded worldwide selecting the best located and most expensive real estate locations in the world to open its flagship stores. In 2010, Zara launched its online boutique and in 2016 it was ranked 27 on Interbrand’s list of best global brands.

The third thing we can say about Zara is that it is the pioneer among “big and fast fashion”, which essentially tries to follow the latest fashions and speed their cheaper versions online including stores. The Zara template is trendy and decently made but inexpensive products sold in beautiful, high-end looking stores. We can call this “The ready to wear-fashion”.

One the big success of Zara is that everyone knows that if you don’t buy it, right then and there, within 11 days the entire stock will change. This create a kind of madness and addiction; we can call this the “Zara addiction” of many customers all over the world.

In the last 5 years, Zara has grown and evolved expotentially, always without paying for marketing or advertising. Social networks, celebrities, influencers, fashion YouTubers or Instagramers wear Zara clothes making a free advertising and promotion of all the clothes, brand, etc. The Zara model is successful, global and enviable.

With Zara you can have something trendy and fashionable without paying too much. The new segment of “Luxury low cost fashion”. We can say that is the unique brand that has create this feeling and strategy.

In this sense, they are very different from most high-fashion houses because they don’t try to create anything radically new or exciting.

Zara brand create a unique sense of fashion as well as the feeling of being unique with their clothes which are always made including the latest trends. Be Zara, be unique and try to create always your own style!
