Projecting Emotions Through Fashion – A Chat with Francesca Felix

Back to beautiful California!  We had the chance to chat with Francesca Felix today.  Francesca’s a San Diego native who provides some awesome fashion through her site and Instagram.  Her style and original photography are awesome so you have to check it out – but only after taking a read below!

When did you launch Frank Vinyl (love the name by the way) and what made you decide to get into fashion blogging?

Thank you! I launched Frank Vinyl somewhere around 6 years ago. At first it was just a way to blend fashion and photography together and experiment with things I loved. I followed a couple of the bigger first blogs from back then and felt ultra-inspired. Of course, I had no idea what I was doing.  Three years later, I decided to take it seriously and started to really focus on it.

Where do you find inspiration for your posts?

Inspiration really comes from everything I see on a day to day basis. I don’t read a lot of fashion magazines so mostly from movies, or something I see on the streets. Music is also a huge inspiration for me. Hence the “VINYL” in Frank Vinyl. Certain music has a certain way of playing with your emotions and inspiring you to feel something. I love to project what I’m feeling via my outfits.

How do you stay current with what’s new or in style at the moment?

It’s easy to stay current with how fast trends blow up via social media. I follow so many other bloggers that it’s always endless sources of inspiration. Although, I really try to just wear what I love and makes me feel comfortable. Sometimes it might be something that’s really trending and other times it might be something I found in my closet and decided to style a different way.  I think the key of being current is always seeing how you can make a trend “yours”.

Do you prefer designer, vintage or highstreet?

All of the above and all mixed together is my favorite. Too much of either is boring to me.

Where are three of your favorite places to shop?

I love thrift shops, love and small boutiques. There’s a couple small boutiques here in San Diego that carry amazing Australian brands. Those are my fave!

Current favorite item in your wardrobe?

I just bought some black gold studded ankle boots from TopShop. I’m dying to wear them so I can pretend I’m some British rocker or something, but they came too small! I just ordered a new pair so all should be well in the world soon.

How many looks do you shoot in a single day?

It depends. If I’m traveling or on the go I might just shoot my outfit as we go during the day. If I know I have a really busy few weeks ahead of me or a lot of sponsors all at once I can shoot up to 6 looks in one day. Every day is different.

What camera do you use, and what do you use to edit your photos?

I use a Mark iii 5D and edit with lightroom. I love my camera!! I was able to save up for it a couple years ago and my photos dramatically got better.

What is your favorite social platform and why?

I hate overusing the word “obsessed” but I really am obsessed with Instagram! I just love the endless sources of inspiration and amazing content the people I follow create. It’s also such a great way to reach your readers instantly and start a conversation. I’ve met a lot of people through Instagram also. It’s a great networking tool!

What are your goals for Frank Vinyl in 2017?

I want to focus on creating more engaging content that will leave my readers with more information and something that will help them. More styling tips, more YouTube videos, tips and tricks posts. I want to figure out how to step Frank Vinyl up even more this year and really focus on quality over quantity.
