You Look Your Best When You Feel Good – A Chat with Leigha Gardner

Self-professed color lover and awesome blogger Leigha Gardner took time to answer some of our questions.  Through her site and Instagram, she showcases her great style and adds in some awesome food and drink too!  Take a read below to read how she launched her site, where she finds inspiration and how she stays current!

When did you launch Lilac Press and what made you decide to get into fashion blogging?

I started The Lilac Press about three years ago during my last semester of college.  I graduated with a degree in economics and was working at a software company in the energy industry, but I just felt like something was missing. I always knew I wanted to do something a bit more creative, and The Lilac Press allowed me to explore and develop my other passions outside of school and work.

Where do you find inspiration for your posts?

I love browsing Instagram and Pinterest as well as As a fan of color and patterns (especially florals), I find inspiration from nature – whether that be from my travels, hikes in the mountains nearby or researching dream destinations. Oftentimes, I have a vision in my mind for an outfit, and then it just becomes a matter of finding the right pieces to bring it to fruition.

How would you describe your personal style?

Classic, elegant and a bit conservative. I never realized it until more recently, but I love pieces that make me feel empowered and polished, and those are most often those that are a bit more conservative.

How do you stay current with what’s new or in style at the moment?

Following along with both designers and celebrities’ social media accounts helps me stay up-to-date with what is hot and trendy. Once I start to see a new trend developing, I can make a conscious decision of whether or not it’s for me.

What are the trends that you are currently coveting?  Do you think you’ll love them next year?

Right now, I love athleisure. The concept that you can look great and feel good even in your comfy off-days is definitely a good one. There’s no need for oversize sweats, when you can throw on cute leggings or joggers and a trendy pair of kicks and still feel good.

What is your favorite outfit that you’ve worn, and why?

This is a tough one. Every time a new outfit post goes up, I’m convinced that outfit is my favorite. But, if I had to narrow it down to just one, I would probably have to say this classic red dress because I felt so strong and empowered to take on anything while wearing it.

What are your top three tips for looking “put together” in a hurry?

Lipstick. Definitely lipstick. Even if you don’t have any other makeup on, a little lip color (even if it’s subtle, like a tinted lip balm) can really go a long way. In addition to that, I would say make sure you’re wearing at least three pieces. If you have on a tee and jeans, add a scarf! And if you’re wearing a simple dress, add a belt and a sweater.

What camera do you use, and what do you use to edit your photos?

I use a Canon 80D, and I love it! It was a great investment, but what helped me the most was a photography course I took last year to really help me make the most of it. I use Lightroom to edit on my laptop and Snapseed if I’m just editing a photo from my phone’s camera roll.

If you could give one piece of style advice, what would it be?

Be yourself. I think you look your best when you feel good. Follow your heart and stay true to your likes and dislikes. If you are thrilled with your outfit, you will surely carry yourself with confidence and therefore look great – no matter what.

What are your goals for Lilac Press in 2017?

2016 was a great year for growth for The Lilac Press, and I plan to continue that trajectory. I’m so thankful for my loyal follower base, and I hope to continue seeing it grow and expand over time.
