When did your interest in fashion and beauty begin?
My interest in fashion began at a very young age. Some of my earliest shopping memories begin in my childhood for “back-to-school” shopping. My mom would always give my sisters and I an allotted amount to spend and we could pick out whatever we wanted. I remember begin made fun of for my girly style by my tomboy best friend. She never understood why I wore high-heeled jelly sandals, or why I cared what I looked like. When I got to college my friends were constantly shopping in my closet and borrowing clothes. It has just always been a passion of mine.
When you launched Minted in the Midwest, what was it like to take that leap and start your own blog?
Nerve-racking! I had no idea where to begin or where to start. I just knew that I was ready to share my favorite purchases and help others to style outfits. I remember being so nervous about people finding out and what they would think. My boyfriend was the one to encourage to me start my blog. I don’t know if I would have had the guts to do it without him.
How have you developed your style over time?
I used to just buy whatever was “popular” or what I saw others wearing. Over time, I started caring less about what other people were wearing and paying more attention to what made me happy. I tend to gravitate towards more feminine pieces. Realizing what works on my body is helpful.
What inspires your style?
I live for the latest edition of Vogue magazine, pinterest, and instagram. We live in a world where style is right at our fingertips. Style is a visual art and just simply looking at it inspires me.
If you had to start your wardrobe from scratch, what 5 things would you go and buy straight away?
I am a firm believer in investing in staple items. I would start with a pair of skinny jeans, white v neck tee, leather jacket, a good pair of boots and a flowy dress.
Who is your fashion icon?
I would say a little bit of Blake Lively mixed with Victoria Beckham
What are some of the latest fashion trends you love?
I am loving the comeback of denim jackets, bell sleeves, and mules!
What are some the latest fashion trends you can NOT stand?
The platform tennis shoes and culottes – I just can’t.
If you could give one piece of style advice, what would it be?
Wear what makes you feel good!
Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years? 10 years?
Hopefully doing what I love – shopping, putting together outfits, and making this blog my full time job.
