From the beautiful Midwest to our pages! Lauleh Aslani spent some time with us recently. She was so generous; telling us about how she chooses outfits, her passion for style and favorite wardrobe items. Be sure to check her chat out and visit her site and Instagram. They’re well worth the visit!
What inspired you to launch A Day in the Lalz?
My sister is the one who nudged me to start a blog. It all began when I showed up in Hawaii where she was doing an Emergency Medicine rotation for a month in Oahu. Since I was there for a month she thought it would be a great idea to document my days spent in Hawaii in the form of a blog. To mimic the phrase “A Day in the Life” she came up with A Day In The Lalz – incorporating my nickname! ADITL started out as a travel blog and over the years it has morphed into a fashion, travel, and beauty blog. I enjoy seeing the blog evolve and can’t believe I’ve been doing it for 5 years now!
Have you always had a passion for style and fashion?
YES! When I was toddler I had this velvet green dress my mom bought me in the winter. I was so obsessed with the dress that I wore it for six months straight! I have photos in the heat of summer with my velvet green dress – so embarrassing! Thankfully my style has evolved now and I can appreciate there is a certain season for certain types of clothes.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be?
I have a passion for photography and travel and I always wanted to be a traveling journalist. Basically I want Anthony Bourdain’s job!
What’s most important to you in choosing an outfit for the day?
Functionality! I’m not the type of person to wear something that is pretty but not easy to move around in. I commute to work therefore my outfits need to be movable and allow me to transition from work to dinner. I go for pieces that are versatile and have a long shelf life. I truly believe in investing in quality pieces that are timeless. When buying a new pair of shoes I really think how many ways can I wear this shoe? Is it comfortable, can I walk in it? I prefer to have a few quality pieces than a closet full of stuff.
Current favorite item in your wardrobe?
My M. Gemi Brezza flats. I finally gave in and purchased my first M. Gemi shoes and I’m hooked!! They are super comfortable and such high quality shoes. I’ve already ordered my second pair!
If you had a chance to work with a fashion designer, who would it be?
This is a tough one – I have so many! A high end designer I would love to work with is Caroline Herrera. She has exquisite taste and all her pieces are classic which aligns with my personal style. A brand that I would love to collaborate with is Banana Republic, mostly because majority of my wardrobe consists of items from BR! I love that I can wear the same top to work, dinner, or on a trip!
If you could give one piece of style advice, what would it be?
There are no rules therefore do what makes YOU happy! Style is so personal that you should be honest and stay true to yourself. My style depends on my mood, the weather, the destination I’m going to. I wear things that are comfortable and make me happy. As long as you are happy everyone else can just stare.
How do you avoid awkward poses while shooting? You look so natural in all of your photos?
Practice makes perfect! To be honest I set up my camera and tripod one day and just started posing. I was able to figure out my angles and poses that worked best for my body and height. It may sound vein but now I know what works for me and I stick to it!
What are the trends that you are currently coveting? Do you think you’ll love them next year?
I always gravitate toward the classic trends such as stipes or shirt dresses. I’m currently having a blush crush moment and loving blush tone shoes and handbags! I’ve been eyeing the Mansur Gavriel Circle Bag in Rosa! My dream bag!
Where do you hope fashion will take you in the future?
I’ve always had a love for fashion, it’s not my full time career at the moment, but I really enjoy having my blog as a creative outlet to share my love for fashion and inspire others. I don’t know if there will ever be a time that fashion will be my full time job, I’m open to the idea, but I hope to continue to inspire others by modest fashion and show that modesty is empowering, beautiful, and always fashionable.
