Today we are extremely lucky to be visited by one of the fastest growing fashion and travel influencers in the world!  Kat Tanita is based in NYC and started her blog to share her awesome fashion, travel and lifestyle tips but it’s turned into so much more than that.  She just expanded her horizons and launched a travel app!  Read more about that and other topics below and make sure to visit her site and follow her on Instagram!

When did you launch With Love From Kat and what made you decide to get into fashion and travel blogging?

I started With Love From Kat 6 years ago – right after I graduated from college with a degree in interior design.  I found myself missing the creative outlet that my classes provided. My blog became a wonderful way for me to share what I was passionate about.  Shortly after graduating I moved to NYC and landed a job working in fashion.  My blog reflected my growing passion for fashion, food, travel and living in the city.

How long did it take you to grow your following? It’s amazing how many followers you have across the various social platforms!

It took me years!  When I first started my blog, only my mom and a few friends were reading it.  Pinterest and Instagram weren’t around so I grew simply by Google searches and word of mouth.  Over the years, I have worked really hard to perfect my photography skills and grow a loyal following on various platforms.

Do you prefer designer, vintage or highstreet?

I love to mix high and low brands together.  I’m always wearing Topshop with YSL or J Brand with Givenchy.  Some of my vintage pieces are my most favorite!  It’s more fun to mix and match and not have everything be head to toe designer.

What are some of the latest fashion trends you love?

I love the athleisure trend – boyfriend jeans with a beanie or baseball cap.  It’s been neat to see how designers have started to expand on their collections and create more casual/street style friendly pieces.  My style has gotten considerably more casual over the past year and I just love that there are so many great options for athleisure items that still allow you to look put together!

What are some the latest fashion trends you can NOT stand?

I just read somewhere that the ugly shoe trend will be big for 2017.  Think crocs, clogs, mule sandals… I won’t be participating in that one!

If you could offer some words of encouragement to a newbie or frustrated fashion blogger, what would they be?

Focus on what you love and stay true to yourself.  Think of your blog as a BRAND and do projects and work that will be relevant for years to come.  You want to look back on your work and be proud of it, so if that means growing a little slower than the next person, and taking on fewer projects to produce quality work then that’s ok.  In the long run, quality over quantity!

How has the launch of your travel app gone so far? That’s very exciting!

Thank you so much!  My Travel App has been an incredible passion project for me over the past 2 years.  It makes me so happy when readers come up to me and say they had the best time in NYC, London or Paris because of my restaurant or hotel recommendations.  My App is growing rapidly – we have 15,000 active users – and I’m really excited for what 2017 will bring in terms of brand and hotel partnerships!

What’s a place you wish to visit that you haven’t been to yet?

I’m dying to go to Tokyo during cherry blossom season.  I’m half Japanese so it would be really special for me to experience the culture there.

What are your 5 essential travel items?

My Tumi suitcase, an eye mask, a passport holder from the collection I designed with Gigi New York, Sisley moisturizer and a cashmere scarf.

What’s your favorite thing to do in NYC?

Enjoy a delicious meal and bottle of wine with friends at an amazing restaurant.  The NYC food scene is unreal – and if you like Italian (it’s my fave cuisine) then you’re in luck because there is no shortage of incredible Italian restaurants there!
